History: Murdoc is the product of an incredibly typical capitol family. He comes from a long line of strict, proud and incredibly wealthy men with a reputation for having a fierce loyalty to the capitol and a great desire to do their part in its progression despite the fact that they're well off enough to do without work for the most part. He was raised under very strict conditions despite being utterly spoiled and conditioned to be an entitled brat to anyone deemed under him. His manners are well practiced with help from both his mother and father, but they've also taught him to judge others from their wealth, manner of dress and the company they keep.

With an upbringing that demands high standards and perfection, Murdoc didn't have much time for play. His childhood through to his late teens were filled with study and hobbies he didn't particularly take to. He was never particularly allowed much freedom or fun, so he tended to take pleasure in the suffering of others. Like any good capitol citizen, The Hunger Games quickly became something he greatly enjoyed as a young boy. While he held no admiration for the fact that tributes tended to be workers, he did take great interest in their origins. He dedicated much of his free time to researching the districts and figuring out what makes a winner out of potential tributes. This would eventually lead to him delving into some light gambling, but in his childhood it had been an innocent interest in a violent, thankless practice.

His hard work payed off in the long run and his studies made him the perfect man for many prestigious jobs provided by the Capitol. His family had a few ideas in mind for him, but his graduation and the influence of a few of his more rebellious friends had him quickly setting his sights on the working force behind the Hunger Games. He didn't start as an escort immediately, his work started behind the scenes in prepping and organisation. Eventually, hard work and a bit of curiousity had him filling in an open spot for District 4, a prospect that pleased him greatly due to his affection for the ocean.

These Hunger Games will be his first Hunger Games as an Escort, though he doesn't intend to let that show.

Presentation: Despite taking very well to the freedom and independence of being an adult and living his own life, his high standards for himself and others remained part of his daily life. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't indulge himself once in a while. Murdoc is as fond of drinking and debauchery as the next person, but he tends to keep it to himself far better than most. He's very careful about how he carries himself (When he hasn't been drinking) and his manner of dress and speech are aspects of his life he fusses over.

Of course, the rich boy upbringing has other negative influences. Murdoc can be very temperamental when he doesn't get his way. Differences in opinion and judgments of others will often have him resorting to dry sarcasm and wit, though he keeps his snark under wraps when he's in good company. When pushed far enough, he can be incredibly grumpy, spiteful and mean spirited. He's not fond of letting his uglier traits slip through the cracks, but he's not always particularly good at it. Murdoc is a man with his heart on his sleeve, so his intentions can be clearer than he means for them to be. In spite of that, he does tend to be very charming when he wants to be. His polite and eloquent articulations and his varying opinions on all manners make him a fantastic conversationalist, though he can be a little awkward when he's not sure how to deal with someone.

He has an endearing sort of fascination and excitement with anything he takes interest in. From the ocean to fashion to tributes he has very strong and well informed opinions. At least, he'd like to believe they're well informed, but his information comes from biased sources and he doesn't care much for looking beyond it. Such is being spoon fed by the capitol. Though he can come across quite stern, when you get him on a topic he's interested in he'll let his more gleeful shine through.

His interests in the game actually have a lot to do with presentation. He fins the prestige and apparent dignity of it very inspiring and it's a form of organistation and demonstration that he finds fulfilling to observe. Being a part of it fills him with a smug sense of pride and as such, he's very particular about the show and the style that everyone puts on display. He will be very stringent on how his tributes look and act and he will go over things carefully for the sake of the outcome.

Motivations: As stated above, Murdoc is very single minded about his goals. He's stubborn and steadfast and he tends to feel as if he knows what he wants but often confuses himself as he delves deeper into situations. It's like he doesn't know if he likes tea or coffee better but he stubbornly wants to insist that it's coffee for the sake of it. He can be very inconsistent with his goals and even his emotions, and the stubborn side of him can make this tough to handle. He often pushes people as much as he pushes himself because of his high expectations.

Murdoc is very much a romantic at heart. He has big goals and aspirations, but he's also seeking a very dramatic, fulfilling sort of relationship. He adores romance and would surely encourage it between his tributes, given the chance. However, his romantic tendencies also come with more wicked ones. Murdoc is very much a jealous guy and he's quietly possessive of anyone from friends, lovers and eventually his tributes. This partially comes from his control freak sort of attitude and his very specific way of having things done.

At first, it will be all about the show to him, but he hasn't lost a tribute yet. That's something certain to do a bit of damage to his pride and his temper. A loss will make him angry, though not just because it's a blemish on his record, it will infuriate him to think he could have done better. Naturally, the death of someone he's probably come to care for will add to this temper tantrum. He'll harden to it over time, but the first loss will be hard to take.

SAMPLES
Thread: [Murdoc, for a Capitol citizen, is dressed quite plainly for once. Of course, even in a button up business shirt and pinstriped pants he's the essence of fashionable, but he certainly hasn't bothered to be impressive when he begins to video himself.

He raises a glass in greeting and it's immediately obvious that he's found somewhere to drink. The drink, at the very least, is flamboyant enough to make up for his lack of magnificent clothing. It's purple, icy and it compliments the pinstripes of his pants that you can't see.]

I must say, that was a riveting arena. I could scarcely keep up with it for all the stops they pulled. [He takes a congratulatory sip of his drink.] For a brief moment I imagined I may have to stop drinking in order to better understand the turns without seeing them through a drunken stupor- But that's all over now! I can't help but find myself despairing in the post game lull.

[Have a dramatic sigh as he scratches his beard.] Anyone care for a drink? The first round is on me. [But he won't say where he is, of course. He'll simply shut the feed off now.]

Prose:
It takes Murdoc a brief moment to adjust as he takes in the words. He can't help but feel, or perhaps hope, that he over did it on the wine before departing to bed the night before. It's highly unrealistic, after all. The people of the Capitol are respectable and valued. They aren't desperate, hungry nobodies clawing their way toward any scrap of freedom like the tributes from the districts. It only increases his confusion when it becomes apparent these are not the tributes from the districts he once studied. It's senseless, but he dare not question it.

Speaking of those hungry nobodies, he cannot help but feel as if the foreign tributes alongside him may have more to bring to the table than he ever could. He is talented and intelligent, but he is ill equipped for such an event and they all damn well know it. He may have little sympathy for the people of the districts, but he has a great respect for their fighting spirit.

He's not ready to die, of course, and he has no intention of dropping to his knees and allowing himself to be killed. It's simply a passing thought that reassures him, making him feel as if an early death of such a spectacular circumstances could be considered rewarding in some manner. He feels betrayed and bitter and hopeless as the movement begins, but deep within him he feels that niggling sense of determination that tells him a glorious death is very nearly as possible as an unlikely victory.

With that, he launches into the fold with no intention of looking back.

Hunger Games AU and OC: Murdoc is from Capitol and he feels justly proud of being so. The idea that people in the districts suffer isn't a thought that crosses his mind often and he is loyal to the expectations he lives under. He's pretty damn happy with his situation overall, it's hard not to be satisfied with such content conditions.
